A study that tracked the effect of sleep habits on your weight loss has shown that women who only sleep for 5 hours a night were 32% more likely to gain weight, with an increase of 33 pounds or more, compared to those who slept for a minimum of 7 hours.
This study even went as far as saying that those who slept least still gained the most weight even when they ate less than those with healthier sleeping habits.
The reason for this weight gain is that a lack of sleep causes your cortisol levels to rise. Cortisol is a hormone usually associated with stress, which can help stimulate your hunger and cravings for carbohydrates.
Other suggestions for this weight gain is that a lack of sleep could lead to a reduction in your metabolism and activity levels during the day.
Method #2 – Juggle your food
This basically means that instead of eating carbohydrate rich foods you should try adding fruits and vegetables to the meal. This will help to reduce your overall calorie intake while increasing your intake of beneficial nutrients.
If you like Spaghetti Bolognese for example you could reduce the meat and spaghetti but add more vegetables to the sauce.
Doing this will increase the nutrients but will reduce the calories.
Method #3 – Eat a starter
If you want to increase your intake of fruit and vegetables then an easy way is to eat a starter.
You should try to avoid high fat dressings however, though a good quality balsamic vinegar or sweet chilli sauce could spice up even the most boring salad.
