Even though we are trying our hardest there are still some common diet mistakes that we have all fallen from time to time.

Here are 6 of the top diet mistakes:

Diet mistake #1 – Skipping mistake

Many people wrongly believe that skipping meals, particularly breakfast is a good way to lose weight.

Unfortunately you may even gain weight using this technique as midmorning your blood sugar levels will be exceptionally low, meaning you will suffer agonising food cravings.

By starting your day with a healthy breakfast, preferably containing protein in some form (eggs are a good option) then you will be less likely to want to binge on junk later on in the morning.

The reason for adding protein to your breakfast is that it is slow to digest, especially when compared to fat, yet can help give your body an energy boost that is much needed.

Diet mistake #2 – Taking the day off

Even though you have eaten healthily for 5 days of the week you shouldn’t really take a day or two off to eat what you want.

These two days could actually result in weight gain as if you are not careful with what you eat then it will become stored as fat that will be difficult to burn off.

Of course you can have the occasional ‘cheat meal’ as they can help to keep you from becoming unmotivated but it is essential you try to avoid too many of them.

Diet mistake #3 – Drinking diet drinks

Even though diet drinks often contain zero calories they still contain artificial sweeteners that will make you crave sweet things like chocolate.

If you are unable to control these cravings then unfortunately you will not succeed at your diet.

Rather than drinking these diet drinks it is advised to choose a healthy alternative such as water, you can always add a slice of lemon or lime to make it more interesting.

Diet mistake #4 – Health food

You need to be careful when buying so called health food as often they will contain hidden sugars, disguised under different names.

It is important that you always read the label of any food you are buying.

Diet mistake #5 – Completely avoiding fat

If you are on a diet then you still need to eat a little fat as it contains essential vitamins and nutrients your body needs to stay healthy.

This does not mean you should pop along to McDonalds for a Big Mac though as this is not the kind of fat that I mean. Instead you should try to eat foods like fish that contain Omega-3 fatty acids.

Diet mistake #6 – Dieting in general

The final mistake we have all made is dieting in general.

Dieting force you to maintain a rigid plan of what you are going to eat, which is almost impossible to achieve long term.

Rather than making drastic cuts to your calorie intake you would be better off making a lifestyle change that you can use for the remainder of your life.

Forget yo-yo dieting, just eat a little healthier with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and lean protein. Then get regular exercise and you will be happier and slimmer with it.
