If you have taken the decision to lose weight then the obvious next step would be to start eating a little healthier and to start getting a little more exercise.
While this may seem simple, the reality is that weight loss can be difficult, which is why so many people either quit before they reach their goal or regain all the lost weight once they reach their goal.
With the following tips you can find a few easier ways to lose weight and avoid gaining weight back:
#1: Eat to lose weight
This may seem like the opposite of what you should do. As you will often hear experts saying how you should cut back on what you are eating in order to lose weight.
While this can be good advice you should not starve yourself either as making drastic cuts to your calorie intake can cause your body to go into a form of starvation mode, whereby your metabolism will slow in an effort to keep hold of your fat reserves.
During this period while your fat is reserved your body will turn towards your muscle instead for energy, which will lower your metabolism even further.
Drastic diets like this are also hard to stick to so you will very likely return to your old eating habits.
This can have a devastating effect on your weight as your metabolism will still be low so the weight will return quickly with a little extra for good measure.
A better and certainly easier approach would be to make sure your body is well nourished, which means that you need to eat, just healthier foods such as fruits, vegetables and lean protein sources such as chicken and turkey.
#2: Eat little and often
Rather than skipping meals you should add more meals to your day, just make sure they are smaller ones.
By eating little and often you will be forcing your body to digest them, which means you will be burning calories.
Also, as you are eating often you will experience fewer food cravings.
#3: Exercise cannot undo a bad diet
Some people believe that if you exercise regularly then it can undo the effects of a bad diet, unfortunately this is not the case.
Have you ever heard the phrase that your “abs are made in the kitchen”? Well, it is true.
If you were to eat a burger that contained 1,000 calories you could spend 2 hours working out and still not burn off all those extra calories.
However, if you chose a healthier meal to begin then you won’t need to workout as hard.
Of course if you want to lose weight AND tone up then exercise with a healthy diet is recommended.
#4: You don’t need the gym to workout
While you may not get the same equipment in your home as you would at the gym, there are still plenty of things that you can do to burn off those calories.
You could even just increase your daily activities so that extra calories are burnt as you are out and about.
For instance you could walk to the shops rather than taking the car, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
There are so many choices you could make each day that could aid your efforts.
