6 Tips to Avoid Weight Gain on Vacation

6 Tips to Avoid Weight Gain on Vacation

Well, summertime is upon us yet again and no doubt you have worked hard to get in shape ready for your vacation.

Unfortunately once we hop onto that plane our healthy diet and exercise plans go out the window, which will result in all those pounds we worked so hard to lose returning with a vengeance.

So how can we avoid weight gain on vacation? The following tips will help:

#1: Be active

While it is tempting to just sit around the pool sunbathing, if you want to keep the weight off then you still need to be as active as you can be.

This does not necessarily mean that you have to use the hotel gym (you can if you want), but you can certainly go for a quick swim now and then, or perhaps go for a walk around the local area.

There will also be plenty of opportunities to dance, whether pool-side or in the nightly entertainment.

#2: Eat at normal times

It is easy to eat at different times when you are on holiday, but you should try to remain constant to ensure you are not overeating.

Eating large meals late at night is particularly bad.

#3: Watch what you drink

Of course it is tempting to sip a cocktail by the pool, but if you want to avoid regaining that lost weight then they should be avoided.

Cocktails are full of added sugar that will do nothing but bad for your waistline. In fact most alcoholic drinks and caffeinated soft drinks are best avoided, they are what I would call ‘empty calories’ as they serve no nutritional benefit.

Weight LossIt is probably boring but water is going to be the best thing for you to drink, it contains zero calories and can flush away those toxins too. Just make sure to buy bottled water as water in some countries is not as clean as you would like.

#4: Make good food choices

If you have a buffet option at your hotel then it will be easier for you to choose the healthier food options.

Even if you don’t then you should look at the menu to choose those foods that are fibre and nutrient-rich, as these will help to fill you up and keep you feeling fuller for longer without the calorie content you would expect from other foods.

You should make sure to ask for the vegetable or salad side instead of fries.

This goes for other fatty foods too. It is best to avoid pizzas and burgers if you are serious about keeping weight gain to a minimum.

These types of food are full of calories and fat that will certainly cause those pounds to start creeping back on.

#5: Eat healthy snacks

To help avoid temptation during meals and to ward off cravings between meals I would suggest keeping some healthy snacks close to hand.

Fresh fruit or a handful of nuts are an ideal snack as they contain few calories but can help ward off temptation.

#6: Be careful of desserts

Desserts are tempting at the best of times, so they are probably impossible to resist now that you are on holidays.

Unfortunately most desserts are full of calories that will likely derail your previous efforts.

I suggest either having a small amount of dessert to curb your sweet tooth, or to have a smaller main meal to try and compensate for those extra calories.
