So you have been on a diet for a while now, have worked hard and sacrificed, but whatever you try you still cant get rid of those last few pounds.
Does this sound familiar to you? If so then you have probably encountered the dreaded weight loss plateau.
So, how can you overcome a weight loss plateau? Here are some tips that can help you achieve your weight loss goal.
How to break the weight loss plateau?
If you are currently experiencing a weight loss plateau then you are certainly not alone. The fact is that most of us who try to lose weight will experience one.
Thankfully we can push through the plateau. Please read on to find out how:
#1: Re-evaluate your calorie intake
If you were losing weight steadily but then noticed that the scales have suddenly stopped moving then perhaps it is time to re-evaluate your calorie intake.
For those who have kept a food diary this will be easier, as you have written down exactly what you have consumed so know if any changes need to be made.
#2: Watch out for ‘calorie creep’
Most of us are not very good at estimating our calorie consumption, which means that we often consume a few hundred more than we really should.
Eating out is an easy way of adding extra calories as it is rare to see the number of calories you have consumed.
Also, added sugar and salt in the dressing and toppings will add calories too, so you will need to count these.
I would suggest that you try measuring your portion sizes and to write down everything you consume. As stated above, if you know exactly what you consume you can make the necessary changes if needed.
#3: Be more active
If you go to the gym regularly then this is obviously a good start, but what I mean is to be more active away from the gym too.
For example, you could leave the car at home when you go to work or to the shops. Take public transport and walk if possible.
There are plenty of opportunities presented to you everyday where you can burn extra calories.
#4: Don’t give up
It can be hard to continue working if you are no longer seeing results, but the truth is that if you simply give up then the lost weight will soon return.
We all become disheartened from time to time, but if you remain dedicated and stick to your plan then you will achieve your goal.
Remember you did not gain the weight overnight, so you cannot expect to lose it overnight either.
