Recently I came across an advertorial featuring Mary Chia brand ambassador Chen Li Ping stating how she had been removed from her position having revealed how she really lost weight.
“I know I’m not supposed to say this since I endorse Mary Chia’s weight loss treatment. But I only really started to lose weight when I started using the Garcinia Cambogia Diet. Mary Chia’s treatment barely made a difference in my weight.”
Unfortunately this claim is false and has simply been made up by the company behind 2 dietary supplements in the hope of tricking those desperate to lose weight into signing up for their trial offers.
This is a common scam and has been used in the past for various products using many different celebrity endorsements, all of which are fake.
Even in this advertorial celebs such as Rihanna, Katy Perry and Jessica Simpson were all said to have used this exact combination of products to achieve their celebrity figures.
What supplements were endorsed?
In the advertorial Garcinia Cambogia Direct and HerbalX Direct were the 2 supplements being featured.
Claims made by these supplements?
Garcinia Cambogia X claims the following benefits:
- Helps prevent fat build up
- Control your cravings
- Help reduce calorie intake by 25%
While HerbalX Direct has made the following claims:
- Stabilise your appetite
- Stimulate weight loss
- Increase energy
While these claims sound impressive, they mean very little unless they can be backed up by science. Therefore we will need to look at their ingredients before we can verify their accuracy.
Ingredients found in these supplements?
Garcinia Cambogia X is said to contain pure Garcinia Cambogia with no fillers or artificial ingredients.
Unfortunately although it states that the recommended dosage is 1000 mg of Garcinia Cambogia it doesn’t actually state that it contains this dosage. Also there is no mention of the amount of HCA present, normally you would expect 60% HCA.
HerbalX Direct also has a similar problem as although it does mention its ingredients there is no mention of their dosages, which makes me seriously doubt their claimed benefits.
Cost of these supplements?
Both Garcinia Cambogia Direct and HerbalX Direct are auto-ship programs that are initially offered as a trial.
Unfortunately although you only have to pay the initial cost of postage, once the trial period has ended you will be charged the full purchase price (S$112.38 and S$110.79 for HerbalX Direct).
As this is an auto-ship program you will also find that every month thereafter you will be sent another package of each supplement, that is until you cancel your membership.
Why you should avoid both Garcinia Cambogia Direct and HerbalX Direct
Both supplements should be avoided, not only for their advertising method but also due to a lack of ingredient information and the fact that they are overpriced too.
The final nail in their coffin is their use of auto-shipping, which although isn’t illegal is certainly unethical and will almost certainly lead to complaints that these supplements are a scam.

Are there proven alternatives to these supplements?
If you want to lose weight then I recommend that you eat healthily and get regular exercise, if you want to speed up the rate that you lose weight I would also suggest that you take a look at both Garcinia Pure and Detox Plus.
Both products are proven and are available together for a cheaper price than either one of the scam products reviewed above, just S$100 for a months supply.
