4 Dieting Strategies That Are Guaranteed to Fail

There are an endless number of dieting strategies, but not all of them are going to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

If you want to successfully lose weight then the following strategies should be avoided.

#1: Counting calories but not being accurate about them

Counting calories is one of the best methods you can use to lose weight.

However, if you are not accurate with your tracking, or if you are estimating then chances are this strategy will fail.

People tend to underestimate the number of calories they consume, which can result in hundreds of extra daily calories being consumed.

Eating out can be a major problem, especially with those restaurants that don’t list the calorie content of their foods.

If you want to lose weight through calorie counting then you need to try and be as accurate as possible.

It is worth the extra effort measuring and keeping note of the actual calorie content. If you don’t then how will you know if you need to make any changes for better results?

#2: Making changes that are too extreme

It can be tempting to go from one extreme to the other, from eating pizza and burgers to a strict vegan diet for example.

Yet if you choose this approach then you are setting yourself up for failure.

Chances are if you cut out all of the foods you love immediately then you are going to end up craving them terribly.

Weight LossA better idea would be to make gradual changes to your diet.

Start by cutting out the bad foods, but allow yourself the occasional treat to ward off any cravings.

This will also ensure your diet does not become too boring too.

#3: Starving yourself

Starving yourself to lose weight simply does not work.

You may lose weight to begin but your body will take its own steps to stop too much fat being lost.

When you starve yourself your body will go into a sort of “starvation mode”, where your metabolic rate will drop to hold onto your fat reserves.

Also, as your body stops burning fat for energy it will turn towards your muscle instead, which will only lower your metabolism even further.

#4: Not learning from your mistakes

The only way to succeed is to learn from your mistakes. We all make them, but if you keep making the same mistakes over and over then your weight loss will remain a dream.

Research has even shown that those who lose weight and regain it over and over (yo-yo dieters) are likely to struggle to lose weight, and may find themselves gaining even more weight over time.
