Could an Epsom salt bath help with weight loss?

Could an Epsom salt bath help with weight loss?

Epsom salts have long been used to help cure everyday aches and pains, now it may have another use.

In one of the latest episodes of the Dr Oz Show it was revealed that an Epsom salt bath could help with your weight loss efforts.

How can an Epsom salt bath help with weight loss?

As Epsom salt contains both magnesium and sulphate it is believed that when you soak in the bath your body will absorb these ingredients, which will help your body to remove toxins.

Over the years toxins will build up in your body that can cause weight gain and prevent weight loss.

By ridding your body of these toxins you will notice a drop in your weight along with various health benefits.

Which celebrities have tried an Epsom salt bath?

It is believed that celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and Elle Macpherson have all experienced the health benefits of Epsom salts.

Gwyneth Paltrow had this to say about taking an Epsom salt bath:

“I love Epsom salts baths to detox, revive muscles and de-puff my skin.”

Other health benefits of an Epsom salt bath

An Epsom salt bath could help to relieve stress, which can also help with your weight loss efforts as stress can lead to comfort eating.

It can also help to prevent the blood from clotting and can lower your risk of stroke.

Other health benefits include:

Reduced bloating

As our skin is porous it will absorb the magnesium and sulphate through the skin, which will help reduce bloating.

No wonder so many models take an Epsom salt bath the night before a bikini or lingerie photo shoot.

Hangover cure

Hangovers are caused by the toxicity of alcohol breaking down within your body, however the sulphate found in an Epsom salt bath can flush out these toxins.

Healthy hair

When Epsom salt is added to your normal shampoo then it can be used to soak up excess oil from your hair.

Your hair will look healthier, fuller and damaged hair will be repaired.

Reduce appearance of bruises

By creating an Epsom salt compress you can reduce the appearance of bruises.

Just soak a flannel in a cup of cold water mixed with 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts and apply directly to your skin.

Facial

Epsom salts can be used to exfoliate and deep cleanse your skin.

Foot soak

Epsom salts have anti-inflammatory properties so soaking your tired feet in a large bowl of warm water mixed with half a cup of Epsom salts will help reduce those aches and pains.

Cure for jet-lag

An Epsom salt bath can relax your aching body and help your body to recover.

How to prepare an Epsom salt bath?

Dr Oz believes that you should soak in a bath containing 2 cups of Epsom salts at a maximum temperature of 97 degrees for 10 minutes will produce the best results.

Who should avoid Epsom salt baths?

If you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, kidney stones or kidney disease, diabetes or heart disease then an Epsom salt bath is not recommended.

You should also avoid having one of these baths if you have any allergies to sulphur.

Where to buy Epsom salt?

You can buy Epsom salt for use in the bath and various other uses from Amazon, who you can imagine stock a wide variety at an affordable price.

    • 100lb seriously go on a diet and exercise. A bath won’t help.

      • Wow @Mena – that’s an honest question she was asking. Why be so rude???

Sharon – sometimes just diet and exercise isn’t enough. It took a mix of those two, vitamins, regular massages and Epsom baths to lose my potential weight – over 150 pounds! (Turns out my issues were stress related which caused weight gain). I *REALLY* insist though – go to your doctor. Ask them first. Mine had to run blood tests and it tooks months of tinkering to find what works for me. But being curious is the first step.

To all the ladies out there – you can do it. Time and patience are the key. And ignore the mena’s in the world. Your story and individual needs are what make you and you are the ones that count – not some else’s opinion.

        Love and prayers,
        Laura

      • To all the negative responses on here learn how to speak to people! Regardless of how someone put on weight if they’re looking for ideas encouragement helps… Being an asshole doesn’t! I’m sure even if it’s just to help de stress them it will help. Obviously this won’t be a cure all for weight loss but it’ll definitely help with getting needed minerals in the body & helping sore muscles if theyre getting active!

Just needed to say that the way people talk to people this way is very distrubing what happen to when people where night has anyone thought she might have other health problems and stuff that prevent her from doing things. I think that people forgot what manners and helping people really mean but I want to say to you thanks for reaching out and asking questions and just remember god loves you no mater what and the espom salt dose help and it’s very relaxing so it will help and I would say if you want to lose weight then do it think of thins you like to do and remember you are you and don’t listen to what people say about you because all that’s maters is you and the people that are in your life
    God bless you

  5. Wow. Very rude Mena and Ewow. Troll others, not people who are genuinely asking questions to benefit their health and overall well-being. To Laura and others, I’m a pro athlete and I can say with upmost certainty that epsom salt baths are very beneficial for more reasons than one! The American diet, work schedule, chemicals, air quality, and the ever present negativity from Trolls/Internet have added to health issues resulting in people needing education on health and fitness. Epsom alone won’t help you lose 100 lbs. BUT, it’ll help alleviate stress which triggers chemical reactions in females that cause us to gain weight. The baths will also help your digestive system which becomes sluggish due to lack of activities and sludge build ups in your body. The baths will decrease joint pain which will make your ability to do more activities greater! Remember a body in motion stays in motion which keeps your body’s furnace burning. So above all consult your doctor. Get tests for deficiency in any vitamins. Diet, less stress, more sleep, and exercise with three epsom salt baths every week if applicable. Pair it with walking, yoga, and gym time if your health permits it. Above all stay away from trolls. A personal trainer is advantageous. Look into fruits and veggies low carb high protein diets. Things to help your progress are Dr. Oz, Nutribullets, and DDP Yoga. Look up YouTube video for ddp yoga it helped a 300+lbs man who was injured to walk again and he lost a whole person in weight. Think of how much progress you could have when you completely overhaul your lifestyle with these listed changes. You’ll live a stronger longer life with much happiness. Sorry for the length! God bless!

      • Epson salt baths have numerous health benefits. Including weight loss benefits.
For a person with health concerns I would recommend soaking in Luke warm water instead of hot for no longer than 10 minutes.

  6. Hi all….I agree with sid31….whatever happened to good manners and kindness ??? To those of you who want to detox and relieve stress epsom slts are great….for those who wants to lose weight and get healthy and live a better life…you can’t go wrong with the 5:2 eating plan, its a way of life though, not a quick fix…millions of people are doing it and it helps to read the book and/or watch the Horizon documentary with Michael Mosley. :-) all the best.

  7. Maybe Sharon meant she has 10 pounds to lose and not 100. I believe she just made a typographical error.
