While there are bound to be new weight loss and fitness fads for 2015 many of them are unlikely to stand the test of time.
Therefore we will instead be looking at some tried and tested tips to ensure you see the best results possible this year.
#1: Don’t burn yourself out
A problem many of us face just after New Year is burn out.
We have made the decision to lose weight and get fitter so we have joined the gym and are there every day.
The problem is that you will soon become tired and in need of a rest.
Rather than going to the gym every day, go 2-3 times a week so you have time to rest between workouts.
If you push yourself too hard you will quickly burn out, which can lead to injuries that will derail your efforts.
#2: Do weight training and cardio
If you want to lose weight then you should not rely solely on cardio.
Weight training is incredibly effective as it will burn calories not only during the workout but also for 24 hours afterwards too.
Lifting weights can also help to build muscle, which will also aid your efforts as increasing your muscle mass will also increase your resting metabolic rate. Muscle burns more calories than fat even while resting.
#3: Do what you enjoy
If you enjoy doing something then you will more likely to continue doing it.
Therefore look for activities that burn calories that you can have fun doing. You will also find other like-minded people who can push you towards your goals.
#4: Discover your own needs and limitations
By finding out how different exercises and foods affect your body you will be able to customise your own regime to your own needs.
This means you will be able to see the best results for your time.
#5: Choose quality over quantity
When exercising, it is not how long you spend at the gym but rather what you actually do there.
If you are just going through the motions for an hour then you are probably wasting your time. You would be better off pushing yourself for 20 minutes.
#6: Quit that fad diet
Most fad diets are a waste of time as quite often they will involve drastic cutting of calories or ridiculous food choices.
Not only does this make it difficult to follow, with many people unable to cope with the drastic reductions, but any weight lost will also likely return once you stop.
The final issue with fad diets is that they can sometime be dangerous, as cutting entire food groups from your diet can leave your diet lacking certain necessary nutrients.
#7: Get organised
If you want to succeed at your weight loss goals then you need to be organised.
This means you need to plan exactly what you are going to be eating and when you are going to exercise.
To help with this process I suggest you keep a diary stating what you intend doing and what you actually do.
This diary will help you keep on top of things and will allow you to look back at things to see what problems you have encountered.
#8: Don’t rely only on exercise
If you want to lose weight then exercise alone will not work, similarly just dieting will not work.
You need a mixture of both if you wish to succeed.
#9: Don’t be afraid of change
Lots of people go to the gym and do the same routine every single time. Now, this will not get you the best results.
After a while your muscles will get used to the routine and you will no longer see the same benefit.
Mix up your routine, change the exercises and confuse your muscles. This will ensure you are not wasting your time.
#10: Train as early as possible
Do you find that by the time you come home from work you are too tired to workout? Well, this is not surprising.
If at all possible you should try to workout as early as possible, which may mean getting up that little bit earlier to workout before work.
#11: Get a training partner
If you can find a like-minded person to go to the gym with you will be able to push each other that little bit harder.
You may also be able to talk to each other about any issues you are experiencing if they have the same sort of goals as you.
