Have you just given birth and have already started to worry about losing the baby weight?
If this sounds like you then you do not need to worry any further. The following tips will help to ensure you are able to get slim post-pregnancy.
Did you know that breastfeeding your baby could help you to burn as many as 500 calories?
If you can then you should choose to breastfeed rather than using formula.
#2: Nap during the day
To make up for those sleepless nights try to take a nap (or 2) during the day.
A lack of sleep (less than 7 hours a night) can affect the hormones that control your appetite and cravings.
#3: Don’t starve yourself
Although you may want quick weight loss, you cannot achieve this by starving yourself.
The only thin that will occur is that your metabolism will slow as your body desperately tries to cling onto its fat reserves.
Once you start eating again you will find that any lost weight will quickly return, plus as your metabolism will remain slow for a while you may put on more weight than you originally had.
#4: Take your time to eat
If you tend to rush your food then you could be eating more than you need to be.
When you eat it takes 20 minutes for your brain to receive the signal from your stomach that you are full. During which time you may have overeaten.
By slowing down you will give your brain chance to receive the signal, so will therefore cut the amount you need to eat.
An easy way to slow down the rate you eat is to chew thoroughly, plus this will help with the digestive process too.
#5: Take a walk
If you want to lose weight then you need to get moving, with walking an easy option.
Just put your baby into its pram and off you go. Just a 30 minute walk could burn up to 100 calories.
There are even prams designed for runners too. So if you used to run before giving birth then you could start back.
#6: Drink more water
There are various reasons why you should be drinking more water, especially as a healthy alternative to soft drinks and caffeinated beverages that are full of creams and sugars.
For a start water is free from calories so you can drink it without affecting your calorie intake. It is also a good way to curb your appetite too.
#7: Eat healthy snacks
If you feel peckish between meals then you should choose a healthy snack like fruit or a handful of nuts instead of chocolate or crisps.
Put away the unhealthy snacks and leave out the healthy ones to help you make the healthy choices.
You cannot expect to lose your post-pregnancy weight overnight. Remember you were pregnant for 9 months so it could take a while to regain your body.
Take no notice of those celebrity stories of them regaining their body within weeks, or in some cases days as this is unlikely to happen.
Chances are you do not have access to a personal trainer or nutritionist, so don’t stress if you do not see immediate results.
Losing weight slowly and steadily is best anyway, as this will ensure that the lost weight does not return.
