Although you are trying to eat right and exercise regularly you are still not seeing the results you would expect to see on the weighing scales.
Maybe some of your habits are slowing your metabolism. Here are some of the more common reasons why your metabolism is currently running slow:
Reason #1 – Not drinking enough water
If your body is full of toxins you may not be able to lose the weight you would expect. By drinking water you will be able to flush these toxins out of your system.
Water can also help suppress your appetite and cut your food cravings. Often your body will mistake thirst for hunger so drinking often will remedy this problem.
Reason #2 – Not enough vitamin D
If your vitamin D levels are too low it has been shown to affect the rate at which you can lose weight.
Also the amount of the hormone ghrelin will also be higher, which will make you feel hungrier than usual.
Reason #3 – Too much cardio
Although cardio is good for burning calories it is not helping to build lean muscle, so is not helping you to burn calories when you are at rest.
Muscle will burn four times as many calories as fat can, even while resting.
Reason #4 – You love a late night snack
If you eat too late, or even worse get up in the middle of the night to snack then your body will not be able to burn off these calories.
These calories will sit in your body and will be converted to fat.
Reason #5 – Cutting caffeine from your diet
Although caffeine or coffee is normally advised to be cut from your diet this may be the wrong advise.
Caffeine can help to boost your metabolic rate so could aid your slimming. Just make sure to watch the sugar, sweetener and fat content.
Reason #6 – You are not getting enough sleep
If you are not getting enough sleep the hormones that control your appetite will be thrown out of sync, making you more likely to snack the following day.
Reason #7 – You are stressed
Stress causes the production of a hormone known as cortisol to be produced. This hormone will cause you to comfort eat, which will ruin your weight loss efforts before they have even begun.
Reason #8 – You are eating off plastic
If you use plastic cutlery or tend to eat from plastic containers you may be consuming endocrine disruptors known as obesogens that have been shown to cause weight gain.
