With the temptation of sweets around every corner it may be a surprise to you that Halloween could actually help with your weight loss efforts.
The University of Westminster in England has discovered that watching a scary movie could help to burn as many calories as a half hour walk, with the scarier movies burning the most calories.
The study involved 10 volunteers watching a selection of scary movies, while their heart rate, oxygen intake and carbon dioxide output all being monitored.
It was discovered that watching a scary movie burnt an average of 113 calories. With the reason given that:
“It is the release of fast-acting adrenaline, produced during short bursts of intense stress, or in this case, fear, which is known to lower the appetite, increase the basal metabolic rate and ultimately burn a higher level of calories.”
