If you want to lose a few pounds or perhaps quite a few pounds you maybe contemplating a diet that will drastically cut your calorie intake.

These kind of fad diets are simply not sustainable, as they are often too strict, or involve cutting entire foods groups from your diet.

These types of fad diet are often not safe in the long run either, as often you will not be consuming the nutrients your body need to stay healthy.

Would it not be easier to follow a slower but more long-term approach to weight loss. One that may take longer but will in the long run will be more successful.

Healthy habit #1: Try to stand up and walk every hour

If you lead a sedentary life then you need to do something to change it.

Those who sit at a desk all day at work are more prone to weight gain, so if possible a couple of times every hour you should stand and go for a short walk, even if it is just to the water cooler.

If you fail to do this then you are putting yourself at a higher risk of heart disease, obesity, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Healthy habit #2: Eat more fibre

To improve digestion you need to start eating more fibre.

The fibre will also help to keep you feeling fuller for longer, as it is slow to digest. It will also expand in your stomach so you wont need to eat so much at mealtimes too.

Healthy habit #3: Get some sleep

A lack of sleep can cause food cravings the following day as your cortisol levels will be raised.

You should aim for a minimum of 7 hours per night, so if you have trouble sleeping currently perhaps you should try to relax before bed to ensure you get a good nights sleep.

Have a hot bath before bed to relax and switch off any distractions; such as your mobile phone.

Healthy habit #4: Clean your house more often

Cleaning burns calories so doing a few more cleaning chores around the house will no doubt help with your weight loss efforts. Plus as a benefit your home will look so much better.

Healthy habit #5: Use an app

There are numerous apps available that can help you keep track of your calorie intake, your activity levels, plus various other helpful tools

You should also post your results on social media websites too, as the encouragement will push you to achieving your goals.

Healthy habits #6: Eat more fruit and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables contain very few calories yet are full of essential nutrients that your body needs.

Therefore eating more fruit and vegetables will be more fulfilling as you can fill up on them without them ruining your efforts.

Healthy habits #7: Drink more water

Water is the best drink for anyone looking to lose a few pounds as not only does it contain zero calories, but can also help to both cut your appetite but to also help to flush out the toxins that cause weight gain in the first place.

Healthy habits #8: Learn some deep breathing exercises

If you suffer from stress then your cortisol levels may be higher than they should. Stress after-all will cause cortisol levels to skyrocket, which will also cause a jump in your food cravings too.

By learning some deep breathing exercises or yoga you may be able to take control of your stress levels, therefore reducing cortisol production and the subsequent cravings.
