5 Household Items Ruining Your Weight Loss Efforts

If you are trying to lose a little bit of weight but are finding that despite your best efforts you are not seeing the weight loss results you would expect. Perhaps there is a reason why.

Here are 5 everyday items that you will find around your own home that could be ruining your weight loss efforts.

#1: Treadmill

While any exercise is better than no exercise at all, steady-state cardio is certainly not the best.

The issue is that you are not really pushing yourself, and once you stop moving you will almost immediately stop burning those all important calories.

My suggestion to you would be to start lifting some weights alongside a little cardio as this will help build muscle that will help increase your resting metabolic rate.

With weight training it has also been shown that you will continue to burn calories long after you finish your workout, in some cases as much as 24 hours later.

If you are short of time, perhaps due to a busy job or family commitments then the treadmill is not the best, as you may only have a couple of minutes spare each day.

You may also find that traditional weight training is out of the question too.

For those with busy lives then I would suggest trying some HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training, as these short bouts of intense exercise will enable you to burn off hundreds of calories in very little time.

Just make sure that when you workout to HIIT that you give it your all.

#2: Bottled water

We should all be drinking more water shouldn’t we? Well, yes we should, especially instead of caffeinated soft drinks or that coffee with all that added sugar and cream.

The problem is that people tend to drink their water from plastic bottles, either bought fresh or then refilled with tap water.

This causes problems as these plastic bottles contain BPA, a chemical that acts as an obesogen, which causes weight gain to occur, with more fat cells produced, an altered metabolism and the promotion of fat storage.

We recommend you drink plenty of water when trying to lose weight, just use a glass instead.

#3: Teflon pans

While it is recommended that you start cooking more homemade meals rather than eating out or picking up a takeaway there may be a hidden danger lurking in the teflon pans we use to cook our food.

Weight lossThese pans are covered in a non-stick coating that may save you time when cleaning up but may inadvertently be adding toxins to your food.

Research has shown that these toxins (known as perfluorinated compounds or PCFs) can raise the risk of developing cancer, ADHD, heart disease, infertility as well as causing weight gain and obesity.

#4: Shampoo

Who doesn’t like a nice clean head of hair? Well, if you are not careful then this habit could be ruining your weight loss efforts.

If your shampoo contains parabens or fragrances such as sodium lauryl sulfate, and polyethylene glycol (PEG) then you would best look for an alternative.

These are all classed as obesogens that can mess with your hormones can cause weight gain.

#5: Laundry detergent

Certain detergents contain irritants and carcinogens that can cause inflammation that can have a negative effect on your weight loss efforts.

Always check to see what it contains, as remember you will be wearing these clothes all day, so if they are covered in these chemicals then you will be affected.
