How Much Exercise is Enough?

How Much Exercise is Enough?

For weight loss and your general health you know that a healthy diet is important. What is just as important is regular exercise, but how much exercise is enough?

Well, this is a very open-ended question as this will vary from person to person, depending on your own individual goals.

Please read on to see how much exercise you should be doing:

How much exercise: If you want to lose weight

If you want to lose weight then you need to create a calorie deficit.

This means that you need to be burning off more calories than you consume, which for some can be a difficult task.

Of course you can cut calories through your diet, and this is recommended, but exercise can also be beneficial.

As for the amount of exercise you should perform? Well, it is recommended that you exercise for an hour a day, five times a week.

With our busy lifestyles however, low-intensity exercise like walking is unlikely to be of much benefit.

To burn off calories you need to raise your heart rate.

How much exercise: If you want to maintain your weight loss

Research has shown that those who are able to exercise for an hour every day were those who were most successful at maintaining their weight loss.

You most certainly should not workout every day indefinitely.

How much exercise: If you want to remain healthy

To reduce your risk of developing cancer and other conditions exercise is recommended, with certain organisations such as the American Cancer Society recommending that you exercise for at least 45 minutes daily.

Other institutes recommend significantly less, although they do recommend that any exercise you perform is at a high intensity.

How to ensure you are getting enough exercise?

While these are recommendations, whatever exercise you can do will be of benefit to you.

Even if you only have a spare 5-10 minutes each day, if you perform HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training then it is certainly possible to burn off hundreds of calories in just a few minutes.

Many of you may not be able to perform intense exercise, but similarly whatever you can do will be of benefit. The trick is to keep pushing yourself to new goals daily.

The benefits of exercise are plain to see, make sure you make it part of your everyday life.
