Recently celebrity Kourtney Kardashian has revealed the secrets to her recent weight loss and the truth may surprise you.

After the birth of her third child in December, Kourtney has revealed that placenta pills have helped to restore her health after childbirth.

On January 10th she posted the following to her Instagram account:

“Yummy…Placenta pills! No joke.”

“I will be sad when my placenta pills run out. They are life changing! #benefits #lookitup.”

What are placenta pills?

Kourtney KardashianWell, the placenta, which is often referred to as afterbirth, is what provides the foetus with the oxygen and nutrients it needs during gestation.

Placenta pills are made using the woman’s dehydrated placenta after the birth has taken place.

While not approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) the act of eating the placenta is certainly not new. Most non-human mammals and primates eat their placentas.

It has also long been practiced in ancient Chinese medicine.

What benefits are claimed?

The makers of these placenta pills claim that apart from post-baby weight loss, consuming them could help:

  • Curb postpartum depression
  • Boost milk production

Who else is a fan of placenta pills?

Kourtney Kardashian is not the only celebrity fan of placenta pills, as former Playboy model Holly Madison is also said to be a fan.

Back in 2013 after giving birth to a baby girl she claimed to have lost 30 pounds in just 6 weeks after taking the pills.

Has Kourtney any other weight loss tips?

Placenta pills are certainly not going to be the only method Kourtney uses to get back to her post-baby weight.

She has revealed previously stated that not overeating is her biggest weight loss secret:

“I don’t count calories. I just try not to overeat and I keep portions down.”

Exercise is also important to her, especially when she was slimming down from 150 pounds to 106 pounds after her previous pregnancies.

She has revealed that she would exercise most days, with running, yoga, calisthenics and dance-cardio her go to forms of exercise.
