While we do not recommend quick weight loss, sometimes you may have an upcoming party or event (a wedding perhaps) that you are desperate to look your best for.
The following are a few tips that can help you lose weight by the weekend, without having to resort to drastic diets or juice cleanses.
How to lose weight by the weekend?
Chances are you are not going to lose a lot of weight over a few days, but there are certainly a few ways to give the illusion that you have lost a lot.
First I would suggest cutting out all junk foods, and to instead eat more ‘whole’ foods.
These are foods that have been minimally processed, so have lost virtually none of their goodness.
Examples of whole foods include fruit and vegetables, grains, lean meat, poultry, fish, nuts and seeds, eggs, legumes, tofu, and dairy foods.
I would also recommend keeping your alcohol limit to the minimum, instead opt for water as it contains zero calories and can help process toxins from within your body.
These two changes can help you lose a few pounds, but the biggest difference they will make is that they will reduce bloating, which will give the appearance that you have lost weight.
Other ways to reduce bloating include:
#1: Watching what carbs you consume
Carbs such as onion, cabbage and brussels sprouts, dried beans and lentils and cauliflower can cause gas and bloating when they are broken down in the large intestine.
#2: Cutting lactose consumption
If you are lacking in lactase you may not break down lactose efficiently, which will leave it to ferment in your gut.
Foods that contain lactose include milk, ice-cream and certain yoghurts. If you suspect that you are lactose-intolerant it maybe best to avoid these foods.
#3: Avoiding artificial sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners like sorbitol and mannitol C can also cause bloating, so make sure when you are looking at foods to buy that you take a moment to read the label thoroughly.
You will be surprised at the things you will find hidden on these food labels.
Why should you avoid drastic diets and juice cleanses?
If you are trying to lose weight fast you maybe tempted to try one of those drastic fad diets, or perhaps even a juice cleanse, but I would not recommend either personally.
The truth is that they wont work for the long term and you are potentially risking your health doing them.
These fad diets often involve drastically cutting your calorie intake or even banning entire food groups.
Doing so will leave you at risk of nutrient deficiencies. Any weight lost will quickly return too, as these diets are not sustainable in the long-term. Who would want to stick to a diet with less than 1,000 calories for the long-term? I most certainly wouldn’t.
Juice cleanses also run a similar risk, as the weight lost is likely to be only water weight, which also causes nutrients to be lost too.
This water weight is quickly replaced, but your health could be affected by the loss of essential nutrients.
I would recommend aiming for a slower weight loss of around 1-2 pounds per week, it may not be as dramatic but it will produce better results.
You most certainly do not want to risk your long-term health trying to lose weight. Even if it is for a party. Hopefully the tips provided will give you an alternative solution, by reducing the bloating you can give the illusion of weight loss.
