Lose Weight Drinking Tequila

Lose Weight Drinking Tequila

Incredibly tequila could help with your weight loss efforts according to a recent study, it has also been shown to help reduce your blood sugar levels, which will go some way to reducing your chances of developing diabetes and reducing the symptoms of those who already suffer with the condition.

With the approximate number of Americans suffering from diabetes currently standing at 26 million this news is welcome as perhaps it could help reduce the number being diagnosed each year.

What did the study show?

In the study undertaken at the American Chemical Society it was shown that agavina, the sugar that comes from the agave plant (the plant that is used to make tequila), helps to trigger insulin production and help to lower the blood sugar of the mice it was tested on.

The study also showed that the sugar also helped the mice that were overweight to lose some of the excess weight.

As agavina is not absorbed by the body, unlike other sugars such as sucrose, fructose and glucose, it will not increase your blood glucose levels.

The scientist behind the study had this to say about the results:

“They are sugars, highly soluble, have a low glycemic index, and a neutral taste, but most important, they are not metabolised by humans.”

How can agavina aid weight loss?

Agavina is a form of fibre, which when consumed will help to fill you up, therefore reducing your appetite.

Obviously when you do not have much of an appetite you will eat less, which will aid your weight loss efforts.

Final thoughts

While it is probably not the best idea to drink tequila with every meal, the study has shown that there could possibly be a use for agavina. Perhaps it could be developed into a type of sweetener?
