Once you have made the decision to lose weight you may be tempted to try and lose the weight as quickly as possible.
However, there are a few reasons why this may not be the best idea.
Read on to discover why it is better for you to lose weight slowly.
#1: You will suffer fatigue and other issues
If you make the decision to lose weight quickly then you may drastically cut your calorie intake.
This will result in a lack of energy and nutrients such as iron that will ultimately lead to anaemia, which will subsequently lead to fatigue setting in.
#2: Your bones will weaken
Another issue with a lack of nutrients is that it can lead to issues like osteoporosis, which is a weakening of the bones.
This occurs when your body is not taking in enough calcium, magnesium and potassium, so your body will turn towards your bones for these vital nutrients.
If you have taken the decision to lose weight, drastic cutting of calories and food will not be healthy long-term.
#3: Your heart health could suffer
While losing a few excess pounds will help to improve your heart health, if you lose the weight too quickly then the opposite is true.
If you are on a strict diet, in an attempt to lose weight quickly then the large amounts of fatty acids released will put extra strain onto your liver, which will cause inflammation in your pancreas, brain and blood vessels.
Losing weight too quickly can also result in muscle loss too, and as your heart is a muscle this can weaken as well.
This is one reason why it is always recommended to keep up your fitness regime or to start one when trying to lose weight.
#4: You may suffer from depression
While you may feel happy to be losing weight, you most certainly will not be happy if you restrict yourself too much or if your diet is all that you think of.
Take it easy and do not put too much pressure on yourself to reach your target quickly.
You must remember that you did not gain the weight overnight, so you are asking a bit much of yourself to lose it overnight too.
Healthy weight loss should only be around 1-3 pounds per week.
#5: Your brain health may suffer
As mentioned drastic diets in an effort to lose weight quickly can result in a lack of nutrients being consumed through food.
Nutrients such as omega-3 is essential for your body and without it your heart and brain may suffer, resulting in difficulty in concentrating and memory lapses.
