Despite the American Dietetic Association stating that a healthy nutritious breakfast is important for weight loss there are still those who believe that skipping the first meal of the day will help them to lose those excess pounds.

In fact as many as 33% of people still skip breakfast in an attempt to lose weight.

A 1994 study shows that the vast majority of children who did not eat breakfast were twice as likely to be overweight when they became adults than those who ate breakfast.

Lower LDL cholesterol levels

Research at Nottingham University has shown that skipping breakfast could lead to raised LDL or bad cholesterol levels, as you are more likely to make bad dietary decisions later on in the day.

What else needs to be done?

If you want to experience the above health benefits then you cannot ruin it by eating unhealthily during the day.

Eating a healthy breakfast will not make any difference to your body weight and health if you then choose to eat junk food throughout the day.

To lose the weight and keep it off your diet should consist of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and lean meat such as chicken.

You should also remember that exercise is important alongside any new diet.
