If you are looking to lose weight you maybe tempted by one of those crazy diets you have seen used by various celebs.
The problem is that most of these diets are not safe, and wont work in the long run either.
Many involve drastic cutting of calories, or the banning of entire food groups, which is not something I would recommend doing.
Luckily there are other options available. Many of which are not only more effective long-term, but much safer too.
Check out some of the ways you can lose weight without crazy diets.
#1: Have a glass of water before you eat
An easy way to cut the amount you eat is to have a glass of water to drink before each meal.
A study showed that those who did this were able to lose an average of 4 kg over a 3-month period.
#2: Have breakfast
Research has shown that those who eat breakfast tend to be slimmer than those who skip it.
There are various reasons for this. Firstly, it will give your metabolism an early kick-start. Plus, can help to stop you from indulging in foods mid-morning that you know are bad for you.
#3: Do some exercise during TV ad breaks
If you love a little TV you will know just how annoying those adverts are.
A typical set of adverts can last between 2 and 3 minutes, which can be a good time to do a little exercise.
These short bouts of exercise can mount up over the course of the night.
#4: Be more active
Of course joining the gym would be a good idea, but there are other ways to burn calories without an expensive gym membership.
Examples of things that you can do daily to burn calories include:
- Walking to the shops instead of taking the car
- Using the stair instead of the elevator
There are so many other examples, have a think about how you can incorporate more calorie-burning activities into your day.
#5: Chew your food thoroughly
If you chew your food thoroughly you wont be able to rush through your food, which will allow your brain time to receive the signal that it is full.
This signal takes around 20 minutes to be received, which if you tend to rush your food could result in more calories consumed than necessary.
Other ways to slow down the rate that you eat include:
- Putting your cutlery down between bites
- Taking a sip of water between bites
#6: Drink green tea
Green tea contains a compound called EGCG that can help to reduce the amount of fat absorbed.
Obviously this can help with your weight loss efforts.
#7: Eat dairy
There are numerous diets that promote the cutting of dairy, but despite claims we do need dairy.
Research has even shown that those who eat dairy are more likely to lose fat than those on a low-dairy diet.
#8: Get plenty of sleep
If you are not getting the recommended 7 hours of sleep per night then you could be putting your attempt to lose weight in jeopardy.
A lack of sleep can raise stress levels and leave your body producing excessive amounts of the hormone cortisol, which will leave you craving food and more likely to hold onto your fat reserves.
