There are various diet plans that make numerous claims, often claims that sound too good to be true.
While it is possible to lose weight quickly, are these diet plans able to offer sustainable weight loss results, or are they so difficult that after a few weeks you soon fall back into your old habits?
What you need to do instead of choosing a quick fix fad diet, look for a diet plan that will help you maintain any weight losses long-term. Here are some steps you should take to achieve this goal:
#1: Make Small Changes Over Time
It takes a while to create habits, but it is worth the time. Habits are key to weight loss as they that you can do without even thinking of them that will aid your efforts.
Even if you focus on one positive habit at a time, before long you wont even realise you are doing it.
Remember this is a marathon not a sprint.
#2: Eat Foods You Like
If you are only eating foods because they are healthy, but are giving no thought to how they taste then chances are you are not going to be able to stick to it long-term.
Find foods that you enjoy and you will be more likely to choose them. This may take a while to find healthy foods you love, but surely it is worth the time and effort?
#3: Make Better Food Storage Choices
Hiding junk food in places that are hard to reach will make it more difficult for you to choose them.
Similarly, if you display healthy food then you are more likely to reach for them.
It is a simple act, but can make a big difference to your food choices.
#4: Break Any Bad Habits
Creating good habits as suggested above is one thing, but to lose weight and keep it off you also need to work toward breaking any bad habits you have.
Do you eat in front of the TV? If you do could be subconsciously associating the TV with eating, so every time you sit to watch it you are likely to feel hungry.
To try and break this habit, instead of reaching for a snack while watching TV, switch it off and go for a short walk. You will find that soon this habit will be broken and replaced with a healthier habit.
#5: Be Prepared
We all live increasingly busy lives, which can make eating healthily difficult.
Sometimes it is quicker and easier to just buy a takeaway or microwave a ready meal, however if weight loss is your ultimate goal then this is not a good idea.
What I would suggest is pre-preparing some meals that you can warm up yourself when you are busy. Chances are you will know in advance which days you are busiest, so you can be prepare if you wanted to be.
#6: Don’t Cut Out All Junk Food
You may think that to lose weight you need to cut out all junk foods, but you will find that when you deny yourself you will crave these foods even more.
What you should do instead is allow yourself these foods, but in moderation.
#7: Make Things Easier For Yourself
When preparing meals for the week it makes sense to use foods that are not only easy to prepare, but are cost effective too.
For instance frozen, ready-chopped and tinned versions of healthy foods are good options that can save you valuable time and money.
If a diet is too expensive, or too difficult then chances are you wont be able to stick to it long-term, which is what your goal should be.
