TMNT actress Megan Fox has recently revealed how she lost the baby weight following the birth of her second son.
Her secret? Well, she achieved her goal through the use of a low carb, sugar free Paleo diet.
What is the Paleo diet?
The Paleo diet involves the consumption of high-quality animal proteins, healthy fats, vegetable and fruits.
While undertaking this diet you are not allowed to eat gluten, sugar, dairy, legumes, starches, alcohol or processed foods.
This diet is often referred to as the Caveman diet as in essence you are only supposed to eat the kind of foods available to your caveman ancestors.
How did Megan Fox find the Paleo diet?
Megan had this to say about her efforts:
“I’ve had to eliminate bread from my diet, so I’m on that high-protein, very low-carbohydrate, very low-sugar diet. Its kind of awful.”
Although she does not seem to be a fan, the results of the diet are nothing short of amazing.
She has even used this diet to lose the post pregnancy weight from her first pregnancy back in 2012, when she gained 23 pounds.
Is the Paleo diet proven?
With celebrity fans including Tim McGraw, Jessica Biel, Kellan Lutz, supermodel Adriana Lima and Matthew McConaughey amongst others you would be right in thinking that this is a popular option for those looking to stay in shape.
However is the Paleo diet proven? Well, research suggests that it is.
In a recent study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition the Paleo diet was proven to be an effective weight loss tool.
During the study 70 obese, post menstrual women were studied over a period of 2 years, with some given a low-fat diet to follow, with the others asked to follow the Paleo diet.
The women had their weight, cholesterol and blood sugar checked every 6 months and at the conclusion of the study those who took part in the Paleo diet lost twice as much weight as those who took part in the low-fat diet (14lbs lost compared to 5.7lbs lost).
Those on the Paleo diet also saw a reduction in belly fat (4 inches in just 6 months) and cholesterol too.
What else did Megan do to lose weight?
As well as sticking rigidly to her diet Megan also worked out with her personal trainer Harley Pasternak, with her workouts consisting of a variety of cardio, stretching and strength training.
