It sounds incredible but is it really possible to pee out fat? According to the makers of the new Aqualyx treatment you can.
What is Aqualyx?
This new treatment that has been called an alternative to liposuction is injected into the body where it is able to dissolve fat cells, which are then passed naturally from your body when you urinate.
The treatment itself involves a water solution being injected into the stubborn fatty areas (quite often around the waistline).
The plant polymers found within this solution bind with the cells of your fat tissue before breaking them down ready to be dissolved.
How much does Aqualyx cost?
A 3 month treatment (1 injection a month) will cost around £900, which although expensive and results in a little swelling and soreness is still a less invasive procedure than liposuction.
Problems with Aqualyx?
Apart from the obvious price issue, there are doubts from the medical community that this treatment is a safe way to burn fat.
Dr Arun Ghosh from Spire Hospital Liverpool had this to say about the Aqualyx fat burning treatment:
“I’ve seen a lot of treatments that claim to reduce fat by breaking it down into an acid so the body reabsorbs it then passes it out and it just doesn’t happen.”
“It’s so dangerous to reabsorb fatty acids into your blood stream as if it’s dissolved down into salt it would send your cholesterol levels sky high.”
“If it’s broken down into sugars then you are sending your glucose levels sky high that can lead to diabetes.”
Even if this treatment does work, if your lifestyle does not change then this will only be a quick fix as the lost fat will soon return.
Recommended method to burn fat
To burn fat and lose weight, and to keep it off long term then you need to start making healthier lifestyle choices.
Your diet will need to improve for a start, cut back on the junk food and takeaways, instead start eating a diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Lean protein rich meat such as chicken and turkey should also be added to your diet as protein is slow to digest so will keep your hunger cravings at bay.
Finally, exercise is also incredibly important for fat loss, and while a gym membership can be a great way to exercise it is not required as you can get a great workout in your own home.
You don’t need to exercise for hours on end either, just working up a sweat in a short 30 minute workout 3-4 times a week is all you need.
