Problems with weight loss surgery

If you are currently overweight and looking to lose weight then you may be contemplating weight loss surgery. However before you spend your hard earned money on this often dangerous surgery perhaps you should read about some of the common issues.

Even if your weight is becoming a huge burden you should never rush into a decision without first giving it a little thought. This point is even more important when it comes to weight loss surgery.

What does weight loss surgery entail?

More often than not weight loss surgery will involve making changes to either your stomach or small intestines.

One of the most common types of weight loss surgery is called Bariatric surgery, which Usually involves reducing the size of your stomach. This will result in you not being able to consume as much food as you could previously.

Gastric bypass surgery is another popular form of weight loss surgery that involves a surgeon dividing your stomach into two, with a smaller pouch at the top and much larger one below.

As with the Bariatric surgery the aim is to reduce the amount of food you are able to consume.

Problems with weight loss surgery?

Apart from the initial risk involved with a surgery of this magnitude, there is a significant risk of infection for the immediate future (up to 6 months usually).

You are likely to encounter nutritional deficiencies too, with micronutirents like iron, vitamin B12, fat soluble vitamins, calcium, thiamine, and folate all lacking.

This lack of nutrients can lead to many different health problems that could potentially be life threatening and will lead to a life where you will have to constantly pop pills.

Rapid weight loss may also cause issues such as the development of gallstones, plus excess skin is a well documented issue that will involve further surgeries to remove.

Safe weight loss

If you want to lose weight then weight loss surgery is not your only option, there are much safer alternatives that may not result in such drastic results but if you are willing to put in the work then it can result in excellent results.

It may sound boring but the most effective method of losing weight is still a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Eat a diet of fresh fruit, vegetables and lean protein sources such as chicken or turkey and you will start to see changes to your body.

Regular exercise is always recommended with every weight loss regime, but this does not mean spending hours in the gym.

You don’t even have to buy an expensive gym membership if you don’t want to as there are plenty of home workouts you can do.

If you currently have a sedentary lifestyle then just going for a walk every evening will make a huge difference to those scales.

Just remember that excess weight you are currently carrying around did not appear over night so you cannot expect to lose it overnight either. Weight loss surgery is not the answer, a little patience and hard work is.
