If you have made the decision to lose weight in 2017 then you are not alone. Yet few will actually achieve their goals.
To make sure you become slimmer this year we have compiled the following weight loss tips, which if you follow will ensure a slimmer 2017 for you.
#1: Be consistent
Once you have decided to lose weight you need to be consistent with your changes.
It takes a while to create habits, so if you are dieting for a day or two then taking a cheat day then you are not creating the healthy habits you need to stick to your efforts.
#2: Eat vegetables and a lean source of protein with every meal
Vegetables are naturally low in calories, and are also full of healthy nutrients and fibre that can fill you up and keep you full.
The protein is also filling and can provide you the energy you need to last throughout the day.
If you are planning on working out, which I recommend, the protein can help repair damaged muscle fibre. Helping your muscle to grow.
#3: Workout often
Of course this is easier said than done, with many of us leading extremely busy lifestyles.
However, if you value your health then you must find the time to workout, at least 3-4 times weekly.
You don’t need to workout for hours on end, you can complete an intense workout in less than 10 minutes, which I am sure even the busiest can spare.
#4: Gain muscle
Have you ever heard anyone state that muscle burns more calories than fat, well it is true.
Muscle is denser than fat, so may weigh more but will make you appear slimmer, so don’t worry if you see the numbers rise on the weighing scales.
I would suggest that when you workout that you don’t just rely on cardio-only workouts, but to also try and do a little strength or weight training too.
#5: Don’t cut all carbs
No-carb diets are the in thing nowadays but I would not recommend them.
Your body needs carbs for a variety of bodily functions, plus it is your number one source of energy.
Instead of cutting all carbs, cut processed carbs instead.
These are foods such as white bread, white pasta and white rice. As well as candies and pastries.
The problem with processed carbs are that they contain very little nutritional content, and are quickly digested by your body, resulting in further cravings for similar foods.
I would suggest that you choose healthy carbs such as vegetables, fruit and whole grains.
#6: Get a good nights sleep
A lack of sleep can leave you feeling unable to exercise and worse still hungry.
The reason for this is that when you are tired the hormones that control your food cravings can be messed up leading to more cravings than you should.
As you are tired you are also less likely to be able to resist these cravings.
#7: Watch your stress levels
Stress can also lead to food cravings. This is because it can cause your body to over-produce cortisol.
Another issue with excess cortisol production is that it can lead to your body holding onto its fat reserves, which if you are trying to be slimmer can be a problem.
If stress is an issue for you then there are things that you can do, for example you could try meditation or deep breathing exercises. Even a nice warm relaxing bath with your favourite book can do wonders for your stress levels.
Hopefully these few tips will give you a little bit of help to achieving your weight loss goals. I wish you good luck in your journey to a slimmer 2017.
