We see them all the time at the gym, giving out their advice to the clients, but what kind of advice would a fitness instructor give to you so that you can finally achieve your weight loss goals?
#1: Sit down and plan
What do you want to achieve? If you don’t know then how are you going to achieve it?
I would suggest that you write down a plan of your goals, both long-term and short-term.
They should be realistic and achievable though as if they are too tough to achieve then you may become disheartened and end up quitting.
#2: Look inside your cupboards
Are your cupboards full of junk? If they are then perhaps you could donate them to the local homeless charity.
Your cupboards should never contain more junk than healthy foods like fruit and vegetables, especially if you are aiming to lose a little weight and become healthier.
#3: Get some support
If you have the support of your family or friends then achieving your weight loss goals will be easier.
Even support from an online dieting group could be the difference between success and failure.
Don’t go it alone as you may find that you will need to bounce ideas of someone, or get much needed advice occasionally.
#4: Use a food diary
By keeping a food diary you will be able to keep tabs on exactly what you are eating and drinking, which will enable you to look back on the diary to see if any changes need to be made.
You can also use a food diary as a motivational tool, as you can also put down your progress too. Use photos if possible that you can look back on to see just how far you have gone.
#5: Change your mindset
To achieve then you need to believe.
It is no good going into this process already thinking that you are going to fail.
Even if you have failed in the past, if you are confident and stick to your plan then you will achieve your goal.
#6: Mix up your workouts
Doing the same workout every time in the gym is unlikely to result in the best results.
After a while your body will get used to the same routine and your muscles will fail to react. You may also find that you will become bored and with boredom the excuses not to workout.
By mixing up your workouts you will keep your muscles guessing, which will ensure you see better results.
I would suggest that you do a little weight training alongside your cardio. As building muscle will help to raise your resting metabolic rate that will in turn enable you to burn off more of those all important calories.
#7: Don’t quit when things are tough
If you quit at the first sign of trouble then you are not going to succeed. We all have off days but as long as you have more good days than bad then you will be well under way to achieving your goal weight.
When times are hard you should use your support system, they will be able to help.
#8: Eat the foods you love
To lose weight you don’t have to cut out your favourite foods entirely. If you do then you will only end up craving them, which will ultimately ruin your efforts when you give into your temptation.
The key is to limit the amount of these foods and make sure that everything else you are eating is as healthy as possible.
#9: Have fun
You should enjoy your weight loss journey. If it is a chore then you are unlikely to succeed.
Make enjoyable meals, have the occasional treat and mix up your workouts. Weight loss does not have to be complicated, but if you follow the above tips then you will succeed.
