5 Tips to Help Walk Off Excess Weight Easily

If your aim is to lose a little weight then you maybe tempted to join a gym. The problem is that gym memberships are expensive and many people don’t go often enough to warrant the expense.

The truth is that you don’t necessarily need a gym membership to workout. There are plenty of activities you can do around your own home that can help you burn off excess calories.

One of the easiest methods is walking, which is a great way for many people to get into fitness.

Even if you are totally unfit or obese then a short walk everyday can do wonders.

Here are some tips to ensure you see the best results from your walking workout.

#1: Learn how many steps you should walk daily

To burn off 500 calories it is estimated that you will need to walk 10,000 steps. Now to lose weight you may need to walk more than that.

Of course when you first decide that walking is for you, you don’t necessarily need to start off walking 20,000 steps. To start you could walk much less, depending on your fitness levels.

Start off slow, and try to increase the number of steps everyday. You will soon surprise yourself at just how many steps you are able to do.

#2: Take mini walks

Walking 20,000 steps in one go could be a challenge, but remember this is a daily target so does not need to be done in one go.

Instead break the number down into smaller walks. Even those trips to the bathroom count towards your daily count.

#3: Walk more over the weekends

People tend to be busier during the week, which could affect how much your walk.

To compensate for this you could walk a little more over the weekend period.

#4: Be prepared

If you do not have the right footwear then it is highly unlikely that you are going to be walking far. I can’t imagine the pain of walking 20,000 steps in your high heels.

Invest in a good pair of walking shoes, or even a pair of trainers. Something comfortable is best.

Also, be prepared to walk whenever you have free time. Don’t just sit on your bum and watch TV, if you are serious about losing a few pounds then you need to get moving.

#5: Write a plan

We all lead busy lives, so to make sure you have time to walk then write down a plan around your own schedule.

Write down how many steps you are planning to walk, plus how long you plan to walk for. Then actually do it.

Writing a plan is the easy part, but finding the motivation is what separates those who succeed and those who won’t.
