Weight loss benefits of sniffing essential oils

New research by Amphora Aromatics has suggested that sniffing essential oils can help your weight loss efforts as the act can help suppress your appetite.

Eugeny Couture a representative of Amphora Aromatics had this to say:

“Essential oils have a huge influence in our daily lives. They can enhance our mood, help us relax and unwind or focus our concentration, so it makes total sense that they can help us lose weight too.”

“Of course healthy eating and exercise remain crucial to any weight loss programme, but, by harnessing the power of scent we can reduce the common hunger pangs that can throw us off track and even result in us breaking the diet completely.”

What research has been undertaken?

Back in 2013 a study undertaken at Munich’s Technische Universitaet and the University of Vienna discovered that people would change their eating habits due to the aroma, while sniffing oil resulted in fewer calories being consumed.

Although promising there are those who recommend that more tests be undertaken, such as Tim Jacob, a professor at Cardiff University’s School of Biosciences.

He had this to say:

“The link between taste and smell is well documented; 70 to 80 per cent of the flavour, and therefore enjoyment, of food is down to smell.”

“When you have a cold, for example, you can barely taste what you’re eating. And if something smells bad, we’ve evolved not to eat it, in case it makes us ill, or kills us.”

“In my research, I’ve found that humans adapt to bad smells quite quickly; we end up switching off our senses to them. This is why pathologists can, over time, comfortably conduct autopsies or forensic scientists can examine murder scenes.”

What smell is recommended?

Eugeny herself suggested that you carry around a bottle of grapefruit oil that you can breathe in a minimum of 6 times daily.

Doing so will, in her opinion at least help to regulate your appetite, resulting in fewer hunger cravings that in theory help you to lose a few pounds.

Of course for any successful weight loss effort you cannot rely solely on this tip. You should always make sure you start eating healthier and get regular exercise.
