#1: Don’t think of weight loss as a diet
When you think of diets you may not necessarily think about it as a long term goal.
Probably you think of reaching your goal weight as the end of the journey, when the reality is that if you wish to keep the weight off you need to think past this point.
Instead of going on a “diet”, think of your weight loss as a lifestyle change.
The healthy changes you have made to achieve your weight loss should be continued, that is unless you like regaining all the lost weight and having to restart every few months or years.
#2: Make achievable goals
If you want to remain motivated throughout your weight loss journey you need to make sure the goals you set yourself are achievable.
Of course you need to have a long-term goal, but if you set yourself smaller more achievable ones they will soon add up.
Focussing purely on the end goal can seem daunting, and perhaps even impossible, which could lead to you quitting if you do not see the results as quickly as you had hoped.
#3: Get help
Those who have support while they are trying to lose weight are more likely to succeed.
The support from family and friends is obviously the best, but if this is not available then there are groups you can join that you can get support from. For instance Weight Watchers or Slimming World.
There are even groups online (Facebook for example) that you can join, where you can speak to like-minded individuals about your progress and any potential issues you have encountered.
Remember the old saying: “a problem shared, is a problem halved”.
#4: Be creative with your food
When attempting to lose weight you may find that you are stuck eating boring foods that contain very few calories, and even less taste.
Yet this does not need to be the case.
If you are willing to look there are countless recipes that you can try to inject some excitement into your meals.
Be creative and don’t be afraid to experiment.
A boring diet will only lead you back into eating the junk foods you know you should be avoiding.
#5: Enjoy exercise
Similarly with exercise, if you are bored doing it then it is highly unlikely that you will stick to any sort of regular exercise regime.
Find something fun to do and you will be more likely to do it regularly.
