Weight Loss on a Budget

Weight Loss on a Budget

With so many fad diets doing the rounds, not to mention all the popular fitness classes, getting in shape can be quite expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.

Here are a few tricks that you can use to achieve the weight loss you need without the expenses that usually comes with most programs.

#1: Do Your Cooking at Home

Rather than buying expensive meals that are already prepared, cook at home.

These ready-meals are often higher in calories too, as they have been prepared without healthy, calorie counting tips in mind.

Studies have shown that planning your food in advance does help boost your weight loss efforts.

Be sure to include foods high in fibre like whole grains, beans, and veggies. Cook them fresh and make sure that you get all that healthy nutrients in to help you with your weight loss goals.

#2: Proper Portion Control

Research shows that almost anyone, whether you are fat or thin, qualified nutritionist or not, realises just how much they eat.

You would be better off exchanging that pre-cooked meal for a fresh meal made at home and spend time with the ingredients so that you know exactly what is going in each meal.

Measure out proper servings of food and consider making larger amounts that you can easily divide into equal portions for freezing.

#3: Make Low Calorie Snack Packs

Measure out individual servings of your favourite healthy snacks. This can be nuts, whole grain crackers, and so on.

Pack them in containers or small zip-top bags.

You can keep them handy when you need a snack or take them on the road with you. Even throw a few in your gym bag — you never know when hunger pangs may appear.

You can try a variety of snack options, like microwave popcorn and even fruits and veggies, or yoghurt.

It’s a great idea for portion control. You can ask around for a few ideas and before you know it you’ll be snacking on healthy foods throughout the day and lose that unwanted weight in no time.

#4: Keep Track of Everything You Eat

Studies show that writing down everything you eat helps you lose weight.

You can use a notebook and pencil or try one of the many free food-tracking apps.

The key is to write down everything you eat…it’ll make you more aware of what you’re eating and rein in mindless snacking.

#5: Exercise Creatively

You don’t need to join the nearest gym to get moving. You can find plenty free activities you can take part in, to avoid unnecessary expenses.

Begin your day with a brisk walk and gradually build up speed and the distance you walk. Then add other activities like jogging, cycling, hiking or dancing.

From there you can incorporate strength training routines and even try a few routines that you can do at home, like the following example.

The main idea is to get moving! So forget expensive gym classes for now, do your own thing.

#6: Buddy Up

Your social network is a very powerful resource when it comes to your weight loss goals.

Find a training buddy that can train with you and help you to stay motivated throughout your efforts.

Studies have shown that when friends trained together in a group setting, they lose more weight than simply training alone.

They were also more successful in keeping the weight off, which is great for your long term goals.

You can also train with a co-worker or colleague, as you do share a working environment and its great for team building too. So buddy up and see those pounds melt off!

#7: Treat Yourself

Set goals for yourself and link it to a treat or a reward. It helps you to stay motivated and on track, plus you’ll have something to look forward to.

This treat can be anything that you want to reward yourself with, but remember, set realistic goals and don’t reward yourself with a cheat meal on a regular basis.

A small cheat meal once a week is fine, but don’t take the whole day off! Get back on track as soon as possible.

#8: Eat Your Vegetables

It’s no secret that veggies are great for your health, and they are great for weight loss too. They contain a lot of fibre and a lot of water too, making them great for your digestive system.

Make veggies a part of your daily routine and even get creative with ways in which you can eat your veggies.

Frozen veggies will also do the trick and it’s very easy to work with, and very convenient too.

These tips will help you to get in shape without breaking the bank. It’s easy to lose weight on a budget if you do a little planning and realise how much there is to do.
