While it is true that can’t treat yourself every day to these high calorie treats, you can still lose weight without denying yourself your favourite foods.

The reality is that if you deny yourself you will feel deprived and crave them even more, which can result in bingeing.

You can still treat yourself, just make sure to watch the portion sizes and to ensure you only indulge once a week.

Weight loss rule #2: You must eat salad every day

While salad can be good for weight loss, some people do not find it very appealing. Plus you need to consider all those toppings that you add, which can seriously add calories to your meal.

If you do eat salad then you need to avoid adding cheese, or the various other unhealthy toppings.

As for those who do not like salad you can still experience the benefits of those greens by adding them to other low calorie meals, for instance a sandwich or in a soup.

Remember you need to be enjoying the food you are eating if you want to stick to your new diet plan.

Weight loss rule #3: You have to exercise to lose weight

Of course exercise will help burn off those excess calories, but what if you do not have time to workout or are ill, or have an injury? What can you do then?

Well, you could always cut back on your food intake. Although you should never drop it too far.

However, if you cannot exercise for whatever reason you just need to make sure you become more active during the day.

Weight loss rule #4: No carbs allowed

When talking about carbohydrates it is important that you understand that not all carbs are created equally.

Those refined carbs like white flour, rice and sugar are the ones that you should be avoiding. While complex carbs like whole wheat pasta, whole grain bread and brown rice should be included in your diet.

These complex carbs are full of protein and fibre so can help keep your energy levels high, while keeping you full too.

Weight loss rule #5: You must measure everything

While you should take notice of your intake of certain foods there are others that you can eat without having to worry.

Non starchy, low calorie foods like salad, peppers, celery and cucumber can be eaten without affecting your diet.

If your diet is too strict you will be less likely to stick to it. Allow a little leeway and you will soon reap the rewards of your hard work.
