How to the French stay slim
Although the French are fond of their wine and cheese, it is a fact that they are amongst the leanest cultures globally, but how?
Well, it comes down to a simple fact. They do like to enjoy whatever they want but they also have strict rules that they abide by too, for example:
#1: They take time to enjoy their food
The French tend to eat their food slowly while enjoying time with family and friends.
This will allow time for your brain to receive the signal from your stomach that it is full, this process usually takes 20 minutes. During which time you may have consumed many more calories if you rushed your meal.
#2: They have home-cooked meals
Home-cooked meals tend to be healthier than store-bought. This is because it contains less sugar and salt, with more natural ingredients.
#3: They eat smaller portions
If you have ever been to a French restaurant you will know what I mean.
Smaller portions means fewer calories consumed, which in turn means that you will lose weight. It really does not need to be more complicated than that.
How the Japanese stay slim
There are a few reasons why Japanese people are able to stay slimmer than their Western counterparts.
They are big fans of seafood (cooked and raw), and they use very little oil.
Their food also tends to be in smaller portions and they also tend to eat foods rich in antioxidants such as seaweed and green tea.

#1: Switch off distractions
There is a Japanese saying that says you should eat with your eyes, but many of us Westerners tend to eat while distracted, with either the TV on, or our smartphones in our hands.
This distracted eating can lead us to consume many more calories than we should, so perhaps we should follow the Japanese principle, and switch off these distractions and take note of what we are eating.
#2: Eat fermented foods
The Japanese are fans of fermented foods such as “natto” (fermented soy beans), miso, and soy sauce, amongst others.
Fermented foods are gut friendly, so help your stomach to produce good bacteria that can help improve your overall health.
#3: Don’t eat desserts
It is rare for the Japanese to eat a dessert after their main meal, and if they do their choice would be an apple or other seasonal fruit, not what we would consider a dessert.
How the Greeks stay slim
The diet of the Greeks has been shown to be ideal for weight loss and good health, with a variety of popular diets being based around their principles; for example the Mediterranean Diet.
Some rules of Greek eating include:
#1: Eating plenty of fibre
Fibre is filling and as it is not quickly digested will keep you feeling full.
Eating a fibre-rich diet will also help solve many digestive issues too.

#2: Cutting out processed foods
Fresh unprocessed foods are better for you (unsurprisingly) than those that have been processed.
This is because when foods have been processed, much of their nutrients have been removed.
#3: Fresh fruit for dessert
As with the Japanese, the Greeks also tend not to eat desserts. And if they do they will often choose fresh fruit.
