Have you been trying to lose weight for a while, are eating healthily and getting regular exercise but not seeing the results you would expect to see?
Well, if this sounds like you then perhaps you should read on. You will soon discover a few ways that you can use to make your workouts more intense so that you can start seeing better results.
Workout rule #1: Be intense
If you are working out but are not getting out of breath or working up a sweat then it is likely that you are not working out intensely enough, so are unlikely to be seeing much benefit, especially if weight loss is your goal.
Of course if you are not used to exercise then you cannot push yourself too hard to begin, as you wont be used to exercise and could injure yourself.
However, you should try and build up the intensity each time you visit the gym, otherwise you might as well not bother.
Workout rule #2: Do HIIT
These days we all lead busy lives so working out may not be a priority. However if you want to see those results on the scales then you need to workout.
This is where HIIT comes in.
HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training can be useful for those with a shortage of time, as most workouts can be completed within a 10 minute time frame.
With HIIT you will be working out to your maximum intensity, with very few short breaks.
Workout rule #3: Use weights
Do your workouts mainly consist of an hour on the cardio machines like the treadmill or elliptical? If so then you are not making the most of your time at the gym.
While you are burning calories on these machines once you stop working out so will the rate that those excess calories are burnt.
By lifting weights you will not only be burning the calories while you workout but for an additional 24 hours post-workout too.
Plus, lifting weights will help to build lean muscle mass too, which is also helpful for weight loss or fat loss as the more muscle your body carries the faster your metabolic rate will be.
Workout rule #4: Mix it up
If you are performing the same workout week after week then your body will get used to the exercises and will plateau, meaning you will not see the same benefits as you used to when doing the same workout.
What you need to be doing is mixing up your workout every few weeks to keep your muscles guessing what is coming next, plus it will ensure your workouts do not become boring as you will find the gym-time less enjoyable if this happens.
Workout rule #5: Be consistent
If you want to lose a few pounds and improve your health then you need to workout regularly, it really is as simple as that.
Once you start skipping workouts your fitness levels will suffer and no doubt your weight will start to creep up.
Stop making excuses, even if you only have a few minutes a day. As suggested above there are certainly ways that you can make the most of your time.
